Security: A detention worker is responsible for
maintaining a maximum security environment. This includes keeping
detention keys on your person at all times. A detention worker shall be
responsible for making sure all doors and windows are secure throughout
the shift.

Safety: A detention worker shall be sure all juveniles and
staff are safe. All staff should be constantly aware of a child’s moods
and behaviors to determine possible risks of injury, suicide, or escape.
A detention worker must attempt to prevent and/or intervene in any
crisis that may arise at the detention center.

A detention worker is responsible for proper documentation
in the communication log, intake packets, incident reports, etc.
o
Detention workers are responsible for ensuring that each
child is served proper meals as approved by a licensed dietician.
o
Detention workers are responsible for following all shift
responsibilities and ensuring the building is well-maintained and clean.
o
Detention workers are responsible for knowing and
following all policies and procedures, written and unwritten. Detention
staff is responsible for any duty directed by the Superintendent or
Chief of Juvenile Services.
